Poker Player Newspaper is hosting the 3rd Annual Poker Employees Championship Tournament this week. The tournament started yesterday, and will run until Thursday, December 4th. The tournament is being held in the Sahara Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. The tournament was formerly known as the World Poker Dealer Championships, and started with single table satellites with a $20 buy-in. The schedule for the rest of the tournament is: Tuesday, Dec. 2, 1:00 pm: $100 buy-in, plus $20 cashWednesday, Dec. 3, 1:00 pm: $300 buy-in, plus $40 cashThursday, Dec. 4, 1:00 pm: Championship, $500 buy-in, plus $50 cash The tournament is open to all current and former employees of a licensed public card room, including Circuit Dealers. The tournament is exclusively No-Limit Texas Holdem Poker.The previous two tournaments were a big success, drawing players from more than 60 different casinos and card rooms around the country. Others who work in the poker industry are also eligible to play, including published poker journalists, poker book authors, marketing executives, poker cruise employees, and tournament promotion company employees, as long as the player has held a paid position within the poker industry, or an industry which is directly supportive of the poker industry. The Board heard testimony in one of their many planned public hearings, this time regarding the Meadows Racetrack and Casino.Most of the feedback at the hearing was positive. There was excitement surrounding the possibility of increased employment opportunities and additional revenue that could be created once the table games are approved.”The Meadows Racetrack and Casino did help the seniors last year with a reduction in property taxes,” said Cheryl Randall, from the Washington Area Senior Citizens Center, as reported by KDKA. “As the Meadows continues to grow, more help will be available for seniors.”Horse owners currently receive a portion of the slot revenue from the Meadows. They now fear that the table games will push gamblers away from the slots, cutting the revenue they are receiving. Officials from the Meadows, however, dispute that claim and believe that slot revenue will actually increase because of the table games.The hearing on the Meadows application is just one of many that will take place in the coming months. The Rivers Casino, one of the newest casinos in the state, will have their hearing in late April. That is also expected to go smoothly, with many proponents of the table games expected to attend.Most of the casinos in Pennsylvania are pushing for a summer unveiling of the new table games. At that time, Pennsylvania may become major competition to Atlantic City, New Jersey, in the battle to gain supremacy in the gaming industry of the Northeast.Lawmakers in the state legalized table games earlier this year for all casinos in Pennsylvania. The casinos had to submit applications to the Gaming Control Board as a first step towards operating games such as blackjack, roulette, and craps in the near future.
